Two Step - Left Turn
In this lesson, Anthony and Rose introduce dancers to the inside left turn—your first turning pattern in Two Step and the point where most dancers start falling in love with the dance. Building on the basic and promenade steps from the first two lessons, this turn adds rotation, flow, and style to your Two Step. Anthony explains the concept of the follower’s three default assumptions in Two Step: always moving down line of dance, always using the quick-quick-slow-slow rhythm, and turning one and a half times by default unless otherwise led. From this framework, the inside left turn makes perfect sense—and becomes far easier to execute smoothly. The lesson walks leaders through the importance of changing alignments and learning when to pause their own momentum so the follower can pass by and rotate with freedom. Followers get clear guidance on footwork timing, balance, and how to stay on track using consistent rotation. You’ll also learn how to comfortably reconnect after the turn without rushing or forcing the frame. With practical demonstrations and helpful imagery (including fresh snow and perfect footprints), this lesson sets you up for one of the most essential Two Step movements you’ll use over and over again.
