Two Step - Promenade

In this follow-up to the basic Two Step, Anthony and Rose introduce dancers to the Promenade—one of the first essential variations you'll use on the dance floor. Building on the foundation from Step 1, this lesson shows how to shift from a traditional closed position into a more open, V-shaped promenade frame, allowing partners to travel side-by-side in smooth coordination down the line of dance. The class focuses on proper alignment, body positioning, and how to make clean transitions between basic and promenade patterns without breaking rhythm or losing connection. Anthony explains the concept of "quick, quick, slow—done" as a structural rhythm, teaching dancers to treat each 4-step count as its own building block while preparing for seamless transitions. You’ll learn two ways to enter promenade: one with a clear pause and reset, and a smoother version where the transition blends naturally between steps. Both techniques emphasize timing, alignment, and the leader’s responsibility for creating space and guiding the direction. With clear instruction and practical visuals, this lesson helps dancers look and feel more confident with their movement. It's a simple variation—but learning to promenade well is a game-changer.
