Two Step - Sweetheart
In this fun and deceptively simple lesson, Anthony and Rose teach the Sweetheart position—a flashy but surprisingly familiar pattern in the Two Step. What makes this lesson unique is that you're not really learning new footwork... you're just learning how to make what you already know look entirely different. Using the same mechanics as the right and left turns covered in earlier lessons, the Sweetheart is created by changing how you hold hands. Anthony explains how to “trade hands on the turn,” moving the follower through a one-and-a-half right turn and catching her into a side-by-side Sweetheart hold. From there, she exits with the same motion as the promenade and left turn—but now it’s a stylish free spin led with a simple “backwards J” motion of the hand. Anthony also introduces a key concept dancers will revisit again and again: the prep. Preparing for turns by gently backing the follower’s shoulder creates natural energy for clean, controlled spins. With visuals, clear alignment guidance, and a touch of humor (no slinging!), this lesson shows how to transform familiar moves into showier versions that look polished and feel great.
