2S: Tandems

In this video, Anthony and Rose break down a slick Two Step variation that dancers have been requesting for a while — a stylish Tandem turn sequence. This one’s intermediate to advanced, but don’t worry — they walk you through every step. It starts off with a basic and leads into an outside turn that finishes in a sweetheart position. From there, both partners go into synchronized tandem turns — meaning you're both spinning together, side-by-side, like two gears moving in sync. The secret sauce? Shanae turns (aka “together-apart” timing), matching footwork, and smooth connection through the fingertips — no grabbing, squeezing, or thumb wrestling here. You'll also learn how to keep proper alignment, when to open the follower’s shoulders to set up rotation, and how the leader “fakes” into and out of the follower’s footwork with a rock step. Everything flows into a clean free spin exit that lands you right back in closed position like a pro. It’s one of those combos that looks advanced but feels natural once you get the hang of it. Super fun on the social floor and a great way to level up your Two Step game without learning a million new patterns.
