2S: Check Hammerlock Reverse

This slick Two Step pattern looks fancy, but it’s way more doable than it first appears. In this lesson, Anthony and Rose teach a combo that includes a check, a hammerlock, an inside arm catch, and a sweet partner pivot that leads right into promenade. While it might sound complicated, it’s really just a series of familiar pieces put together in a new way that flows beautifully down the line of dance. The pattern focuses on clean hand transitions, body position, and knowing where you are in relation to your partner at all times. The follower keeps a steady line while the leader does all the work moving around her—just the way Two Step should be. Timing is key here, especially when rotating into the pivot and reversing direction at the end. You’ll also get a reminder to “guard the girls,” because hand placement matters—especially in patterns like this that use a lot of connection and leverage. If you’ve been dancing basics and want to start layering in more impressive turns and transitions without feeling overwhelmed, this is a great next step. It’s flashy without being fussy—and it feels really good once you’ve got it down.
