2S: Barrel Rolls

If you’re building your go-to Two Step moves, this one’s a must. In this lesson, Anthony and Rose break down the Barrel Roll—a classic, essential pattern that looks great, feels good, and gets used all the time on the dance floor. It’s the dance version of steak and potatoes: basic ingredients, super satisfying, and something every dancer needs to have in their tool belt. They’ll start by teaching the basic version and then show you how to take it up a notch by repeating the movement multiple times. You’ll learn how to stay aligned with your partner (hello, inside vs. outside rail), how to lead and follow the turns smoothly, and how to keep the connection using the “Spider-Man fingers” trick (you’ll see what we mean). Plus, Anthony explains the difference between a halo turn and a barrel roll, so you’ll understand exactly what you’re doing and why it works. Whether you're dancing it once or spinning through it four times in a row, this is one of those patterns that just feels good once you get it. By the end, you’ll have a super social-friendly move that looks more advanced than it is—and gets a lot of mileage in your dancing.
