Tip #9: Respect the Halo.

In this tip, Anthony and Rose explain one of their all-time favorite teaching metaphors — and it’s one that’s saved many a turn from disaster. According to Anthony, “women are angels,” which means every follower comes with a halo. And that halo isn’t just for show — it’s a guide for where the leader’s hand should travel during a turn. This invisible ring wraps around the follower’s head, not above it. If your lead pulls the follower’s hand up too high or veers outside the path of that halo, you’ll throw off her balance, torque her arm, or make the turn feel like a wrestling match. And nobody signed up for that. This tip focuses on hand path and awareness — making sure the leader’s hand follows a clean, circular path around the follower’s head. Rose explains how this small detail creates a smoother, safer, and more natural turn. When the hand stays in the halo, the follower can stay relaxed and responsive. It’s one of those little things that makes a huge difference. So remember: keep it in the halo, keep it graceful, and keep those turns angel-approved.
