WCS: THIS Is What REALLY Matters...

A lot of dancers start West Coast Swing thinking it’s way harder than it actually is. There's this pressure to remember a hundred steps, syncopations, fancy footwork—and it can feel like you're just trying not to mess up. But here’s the truth: most of that stuff doesn’t even matter. In this video, we strip everything down to the core of what actually does matter in West Coast: where you're going, what you're doing, and how you're connected with your partner. That's it. We do a little experiment where we dance basic patterns—like the sugar push, whip, and side pass—and show how you could literally be on the wrong foot the entire time and still make it work. Then we show how walking the patterns still creates the same structure. You'll also learn the secret behind six-count and eight-count patterns (hint: it’s about the flow, not the feet). We’re not saying footwork doesn’t matter at all—but if you don’t understand the real mechanics of West Coast first, syncopations will just turn into a hot mess. So if WCS has ever felt too complicated, this video is going to make you go, “Wait… that’s it?!”
